Donal Boyd is an American wildlife conservationist and photographer currently based in Southern Africa. His intimate portraits of the world’s most threatened wildlife establish a sense of closeness, familiarity, and emotional connection between viewers and the subjects he depicts.
Donal’s highly aesthetic imagery is accomplished through distilling the most visually punctual elements of wildlife through post-processing techniques that push the boundaries of traditional wildlife portraiture. Before embarking on his mission to protect nature full-time, Donal completed two degrees in Chemical Engineering and worked a corporate job. He left it all behind in 2016 when he moved out of the US, spending his time between Southern Africa and Iceland, to focus on developing his photographic skills.
Donal is a longtime educator and instructor and he's led countless students on in-field photographic expeditions all around the world. In light of the current global situation, he's now taken aim to distill his unique skillset into a series of lessons and tutorials through his newly launched Photo Editing Academy.
Currently stationed in Iceland, Donal is excited to present this first course for the Photo Editing Academy, which aims to creators develop the skills necessary to become more powerful visual communicators through photography & storytelling.
